Theme 1: Sustainable Agro-Supply Chains

Sustainable agro-supply chains are emerging from the amazing shift of millions of small producers in the South to demand driven chains. Increasingly exposed to local, regional and world markets, they must mesh with the private sector and organize, invest in technology and comply with safety and quality standards – or risk marginalization.

The partnership develops:
  • Capacity and expertise to strengthen small producers’ roles in supply chains
  • Pilot chain analyses and lessons in facilitating market access
  • Market-orientation for improved rural livelihoods

In the partnership, Southern stakeholders – small-holders, retailers, processors, traders, and knowledge institutions – work together with producer and private sector organizations. Their transparent cooperation forms a delicate process of co-innovation, pilot studies, problem analysis, policy development and implementation.
